An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team will hold virtual technical meetings during January 19-22, 2021 with the Surinamese authorities and a few private sector counterparts. This team will follow-up by officially conducting a virtual Staff Visit mission during January 25- February 5, 2021.
During the Staff Visit mission, the IMF team will meet with a broader set of representatives of the private sector, members of the parliament, labor unions, and civil society. The Suriname team will be led by the Ministry of Finance and Central Bank of the Republic of Suriname. These virtual visits follow the request by the Republic of Suriname for IMF financial assistance.
Discussions will notably cover IMF's financial and technical support for the authorities' macroeconomic reform plans to stabilize the macroeconomic position of the Republic with a view to ensuring financial protection of the most vulnerable citizens.
The Surinamese authorities welcome these virtual visits, which mark an important step in the discussions between the Republic of Suriname and the IMF, in the perspective of pursuing economic policies that are conducive to inclusive growth, sustainable public finances, and overall macroeconomic stability.
