Minister Achaibersing: Statistieken zijn basis voor goed bestuur

Het Algemeen Bureau voor de Statistiek (ABS) en de Commissie voor de Statistiek (COMSTAT) hebben een seminar over de toekomst van het statistiekwezen in Suriname georganiseerd. Vanwege COVID-19 was het seminar virtueel. Minister Armand Achaibersing van Financiën en Planning verrichtte op donderdag 28 januari 2021 met genoegen de opening.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team will hold virtual technical meetings during January 19-22, 2021 with the Surinamese authorities and a few private sector counterparts. This team will follow-up by officially conducting a virtual Staff Visit mission during January 25- February 5, 2021.

CDB BASIC NEEDS TRUSTFUND TENTH (BNTF 10) PROGRAMME. REQUEST FORSUB-PROJECT PROPOSALS – BNTF 10.

The Government of Suriname anticipates receiving financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) under its Basic Needs Trust Fund Tenth (BNTF 10) Regional Programme. BNTF is a grant-funded initiative of CDB which commenced over 40 years ago and is currently in the closing phases of its ninth cycle. BNTF is one of CDB’s key instruments for addressing poverty reduction by providing access for the poor and most vulnerable communities to basic public services through the provision of social and economic infrastructure and human resources development to enhance employability, community management and engagement.

PARAMARIBO, Suriname, December 7, 2020 -- The Republic of Suriname (the “Republic”) announced today that it has received the Requisite Consents (as defined below) as of 5:00 p.m., New York City time, on December 4, 2020 (the “Expiration Time”), according to Morrow Sodali Ltd., the Information and Tabulation Agent, for its consent solicitations announced on November 13, 2020 (each, a “Consent Solicitation”) relating to its 9.875% Notes due 2023 (the “2023 Notes”) and its 9.25% Notes due 2026 (the “2026 Notes” and, together with the 2026 Notes, the “Notes”).

Minister Armand Achaibersing van Financiën en Planning heeft zich samen met het bestuur van de Bond voor Belangenbehartiging Gepensioneerden uit Overheidsdienst (BBGO) gebogen over knelpunten van de groep. Beide partijen zijn het met elkaar eens dat het gesprek een vruchtbaar verloop heeft gehad. Partijen hebben op 30 november 2020 de knelpunten besproken in het BBGO-gebouw.

Suriname Creditor Committee Announces Formation

LONDON, BOSTON and NEW YORK, November 4, 2020 – A representative group of institutional holders of Eurodollar bonds due 2023 and 2026 (collectively, the “Eurobonds”) issued by the Republic of Suriname (“Suriname”) has come together to form a creditor committee (the “Committee”) in response to the announcement by Suriname that it has elected to take advantage of the 30-day grace period on the coupon payment that was due on October 26, 2020 on the 2026 Eurobonds, and that it intends to seek a payment deferral on its foreign currencydenominated debt in the short term.

The Surinamese authorities are making significant progress in their debt management strategy as reflected in the announcement made on October 26th that the government will use its 30 day grace period for the 2026 bond interest payment. As a follow up, the Ministry of Finance has launched a consent solicitation for holders of both the 2023 and the 2026 bonds amounting to USD 675 million in aggregate in accordance with the terms of the bond documentation.
